The Solar Plexus – Power Center – Self-Mastery
This is the 3rd Chakra in our body, and is located about 4 fingers above the belly button or just below the diaphragm. It is yellow or goldish in colour and its elemental connection is fire. It is the seat of your ego but also will power, energy, strength and purpose. The age that this kicks in is, you guessed it, terrible 2’s. This is when as a child you start to sit in your own power and voice your own desires.
The Solar Plexus is the source of your own personal power, self-worth, self-esteem, courage (Just like “Zan” my Lioness Totem) to manifest your dreams into reality, confidence, self-esteem, self-mastery, and purpose. If you embrace these qualities of the Solar Plexus you will have the capacity to face obstacles and sit strong in your own confidence and power, not too much that it dominates others, in your own potential.
It monitors how much energy we give out whether it is enough, enough or not much at all. This is where you may face issues if there is a block, deficit or excessive amount of energy or power, confidence and strength. This is where your gut instinct resides, your own intuition, where the energy tells you if you are nervous, egotistical, confident with compassion and love or a wreck, a form of feeling powerless.
Solar Plexus is the place where you act on, move forward, and get it done, such as, “I can do that”, “This is exactly what I need”, “I am taking the steps to achieve this”. Taking action and not just thinking, dreaming, being nervous, indecisive or even demanding it. It should just flow naturally from your power center.
What do you desire right this minute?
Write it down
Do you do things to:
- Please others
- Use our own energy up to the point of feeling dis-empowered
- Are the actions taken NOT for yours or another’s greater good?
Do you use the phrase, “I have to”, a lot? When this phrase is used, it sends out to the universe, a message that we don’t own what we “have to do” and so it becomes a choice instead of an action? You place this energy outside of your “Power Center” instead of taking action, which dis-empowers you.
Affirming, I am choosing to or I choose to. This expresses to the universe and your own energy center that you are confident and ready to take action.
As an exercise, go ahead and write down how many times you actually begin a sentence with, “I have to.” Then rewrite them down as, “I choose to” and see how that energy shifts for you.
Just on a side note, when someone overly critical, arrogant or judgmental, this is in fact a lack of self-esteem on their own part, which weakens their own energy, desire and will in this center.
“This is your solar plexus, known also as the power center. Here resides a reservoir of untapped will and heroism. When this chakra is healthy, we understand our potential and are motivated to explore it. When blocked we may feel “butterflies to our stomach” or suffer other stomach woes. A blocked power center makes us act and feel powerless. The opposite problem happens when this energy center is too broad. The third chakra is highly complex.”
A balanced Solar Plexus has qualities of confidence, courage, purpose, warmth, good digestion, self-discipline, deliberate, assertive and freedom to make a choice to take effective action.
So the building blocks of healing this Chakra are to work on self-worth, self-confidence, self-acceptance, self-love, self-empowerment and self-esteem.

Affirmations – Louise Hay
I love and approve of myself exactly as I am
I create a stress – free world for myself
In the infinity of life where I am, all is perfect, whole, and complete. My life is ever new. Each moment of my life is new and fresh and vital. I use my affirmative thinking to create exactly what I want. This is a new day. I am a new me. I think differently. I speak differently. I act differently. Others treat me differently. My new world is a reflection of my new thinking. It is a joy and a delight to plant new seeds, for I know these seeds will become new experiences. All is well in my world.
